North Potomac is located outside the Capital Beltway, just off I-270. It was founded in 1988. It shares a similar history with Potomac.

North Potomac is a classically suburban community comprised of many smaller neighborhoods. Here one can find large single-family homes and townhouses. There are several shopping areas within the community containing numerous retailers, grocery stores and other regional and national chains. Muddy Branch Park courses throughout North Potomac and is ideal for those looking for trail running, walking and biking.
The major roads are Darnestown Road, Travilah Road and Great Seneca Highway. The community is almost bisected by Quince Orchard Road and Dufief Mill Road. I-270 runs north to Germantown and Gaithersburg and south to I-495.
